STRIKE-BREAKERS

POLICE GUARDS SOUGHT (Rec. 12.10) MELBOURNE, This Day. - The Railways Commissioners- have -asked the police to protect men who "defy instructions of the Railwaymen’s Union by going to work at the railway -workshops. Militant unionists are picketing the workshops in an endeavour to prevent the strikers returning to work. - The Commissioners allege that the pickets, have punched and tried to drag away some of the strike breakers. A deputation of 800 railwaymen, from a meeting sponsored by the Labour Party, which called for the resignation of the strike leaders, marched to the Trades Hall and demanded that the Australian Council of Trade Unions give effect to their wishes. The secretary of the council, Mr R. R. Broadby, said: “They’re your union officials. You sack them. It’s not our job.”
