BASIC WAGE CASE
“HERE TILL DOOMSDAY,” SAYS JUDGE (Rec. 11.15) MELBOURNE, This Day. “We shall be here till Doomsday,” said acting-Chief Judge Foster during the hearing of the basic wage application in the Arbitration Court. The application, which is the first of five cases to determine to what extent loadings and margins will operate with the' £1 increase in the basic wage recently aproved by the court, has been before the court two days, and is still unfinished.
“We are appalled by the prospect we have of examining'every margin in every award to find *out how much should be added to determine the basic wage for every classification,” said Judge Foster. “Until now I thought we would be here merely until Christmas come next year. I now suggest we shall he here till Doomsday.”
