PLANS CHANGED
COMMUNIST PARTY NEW INSTRUCTIONS TO MEMBERS (Special Correspondent—N.Z.P.A.). (Rec. 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 17: New instructions "to Communist Party members from their General Secretary, Mr Harry pollitt, have been published, indicating that the whole force of the Communist propaganda machine will be used to influence key workers in Britain’s defence programme. The drive will be part of the C.ominform “peace campaign.” Mr Pollitt urges the party’s 40,000 members in Britain to capturq the political and industrial adherence of workers in arms factories and in essential services on which the defence programme depends. Mr Pollitt states: “We believe that because of developing events there is more political discussion now going on inside factories than ever before. This situation presents Communists’ with greater opportunities for united activity than have existed for a very longtime. 'V “Factories give the best possibilities for influencing the opinions of workers. If organised workers in industry producing and transporting coal, steel, bombs and uniforms are wholeheartedly for peace, this can be a decisive force for preventing war from breaking out. In the factory we can have a contact every day with workers in a condition which makes it easier for them to understand the need for unity against capitalism, and to learn how to fight for their needs as a united working-class.”
