SHOWERS CONTINUE Though this morning in Ashburton gave promise of a fine day the sky clouded over and intermittent showers continued, though little rain fell compared with that of early in the weqlc. Meteorological readings taken at 9 o’clock this morning were: Maximum temperature (for the previous 24 hours) 49.8, minimum 37.6. The earth temperature was 49.6 and the barometer read 30.17 and showed a rising tendency. Eleven points of rain fell in the period and there were two hours of sunshine. FAIR TO CLOUDY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon fb-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: A depression is centred north of New Zealand and an anti-cyclone is centred south-east of the South Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to midnight to-morrow is:—

Moderate winds from an easterly quarter: weather cloudy and cool, with some scattered showers in North Canterbury. Outlook for Friday: Fair to cloudy.
