TRAFFIC IN TINWALD
DEPARTMENT SEEKS CONTROL OFFER TURNED DOWN When an offer was received by the Tinwald Town Board, at the monthly meeting last evening, from the Transport Department to take over traffic control in the town district, in return for 60 per cent, of the annual revenue from drivers’ licences, it was decided that, in the meantime, no change should be made. It was pointed out that at present the Department controls all traffic on the main highway through Tinwald, and that the additional control would apply to streets in the district other than the highway. A request was received from the Borough Council for the board to appoint a representative on the Centennial Sports Hall Committee. It was decided to reply, however, that in view of the activities with which the board was involved, in connection with the Tinwald Memorial Community Centre, it could not be represented on the committee. Advice was received from the Department of Health that, owing to staff shortages, its health inspector at Ashburton would not be available as the board’s building inspector after September 30. The matter of an appointment to fill the vacancy was held over until next board meeting. It was reported that the board’s new tractor-grader was now in operation and working satisfactorily. Mr H. B. Millichamp presided and also present were Messrs J. H. Harper, G. Glassey, A. C. Wakelin and R. J. Tarbotton.
