BASKETBALL TOURNEY AUCKLAND DEFEATS WELLINGTON (P.A.) ' PALMERSTON N., This Day. The women’s national basketball tournament was continued in Palmerston North this morning in fine weather. Chief interest this morning was in the Auckland - Wellington match, in view of Tauranga, a new team, holding Auckland to a draw yesterday. Auckland was too good, however, and won by 29 to 9. Results of this morning’s games were as follows: Major Grade—Auckland 29, Wellington 9; Canterbury 35, Southland 17; Tauranga 23, Wanganui 19; Manawatu 22, Otago 17. Second Grade—South Canterbury 29, Vyaikato 19, Taranaki 22, West coast 17; Nelson 18, Southland Minor 8; Horowhenua 24, Hutt Valley 17. Third Grade—Thames Valley 24, Otago Minor 9; Eastern Bay of Plenty 19, North Otago *9; Waikato Minor 24, South Auckland 21.
