WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. “New Zealand will have to scale down, her search for • immigrants in Britain,” said the secretary of the New Zealand Federation of Labour (Mr K. McL. Baxter) who returned on the Rangitata to-day from the International Labour Organisation Conference at Geneva. Mr Baxter said the opinion expressed was a personal one. Britain’s essential industry would need manpower for production, with the Korean war commitment, Mr Baxter said. There were the additional demands of armed forces. There seemed to be full employment at present in Britain with such jobs as London bus-drivers being advertised.
