ALTANTIC PACT NATIONS

AGREEMENT ON SEA DEFENCES WASHINGTON, August 17. Leading naval officers of 10 North Atlantic Pact nations had reached complete agreement on the protection of sea lanes and coastal defence against a possible aggressor, said Admiral William M. Fechteler, of the United States Navy, to-day. . Admiral Fechteler made his announcement after a two-day secret meeting of officers in the Ocean Regipnal Planning Group of the North Atlantic Pact nations. Admiral Fechteler said that the group, which was a subsidiary of the Chiefs of Staff Committee, would meet frequently in future. This-decision reflected the increased tempo of military preparations, brought about by the Korean war.
