GAMBIA ENSIGN

PRESENTATION TO COLONY ACKNOWLEDGED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 18. Acknowledgement of the presentation of the ensign flown by H.M.N.Z.S. Gambia during the ceremony in Tokio Bay when Japan surrendered to the Allies in 1945 was received by the Minister of Defence (Mr T. L. Macdonald) to-day from the Governor of the Colony of Gambia. “The white ensign was enclosed in a casket of New Zealand woods and was forwarded to the Governor as being the most appropriate way to symbolise the association between the colony and New Zealand, formed by the loan of the ship,” said Mr Macdonald. The Governor of Gambia had said the ensign would hang in the Chamber of the Colony’s Legislative Council. !
