SAVAGE CLUB
RAID BY TIMARU PARTY SUCCESSFUL KORERO Forty members of the South Canterbury Savage Club, headed by Great Chief W. Ramsay raided the hapu of the Ashburton Savage Club last night. Local members turned out ,in goodly numbers to welcome the visitors, who presented a well varied and thor oughly enjoyable programme. The raid fulfilled the purpose of all such events in that it provided an opportunity for the renewal of established friendships and the creation of new ones. At the call, of Tohunga A. A. Todd, members mixed freely, and this action contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening. Great Chief Ramsay was installed in office by Great Chief K. Macfarlane, who extended a warm welcome to the raiding party. Later in the evening Great Chief Macfarlane presented the visiting Great Chief with a Tuatara badge as a memento of the visit, and expressed the hope that the emblem would serve to remind 'the weai’er of a most successful and enjoyable evening in Ashburton. The programme comprised instrumental and vocal items judiciously interspersed, and was. thoroughly enjoyed. Every number was encored, and in one instance a second encore was demanded. The Ashburton Club’s Orchestra, under Savage R. Milligan, played four very acceptable selections in the course of the evening, and other contributions to the programme were: Vocal solos, Savages C. Whitehouse and J. A. Blyth and Ex-Great Chief J. Sligo; violin eolos, Savage P. McLaughlin; trombone solos, Savage D. Smith; piano duets, Warrior N. King and Savage W.
