DIAMOND SMUGGLING

BIG GANGS OPERATING (Rec. 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, April 11. The International Diamond Manufacturers’ Association, which represents the entire world production of polished diamonds, to - day offered £IO,OOO sterling reward for information on three smuggling gangs flooding America with illicit gems. The secretary of the association, Mr R. Fink, said in London that smuggling from Belgium and Holland to Italy and from there to America was undermining the business of legitimate traders.

“The smuggling is tremendous,” he said. “It is believed there are three big gangs, with a world organisation, carrying on smuggling on a' very large scale. We do not think it is the Avork of little individuals. It is jhigjdy-organised gang Avork,” said Mr Fink.
