NEWS OF THE TURF
WIN FOR KLONDYKE One of the attractions at the Hinds Gymkhana yesterday was the trotting events staged on Miss J. Cuff’s sixfurlong racing track adjoining the Hinds Domain. The big race of the day was the Hinds Cup, of a mile and a half, for harness horses assessed at 3.33 or better. The of Nelsonova, Cavalier, and Joan McKinney left eight horses to face the starter. Soon after the start, Kingsley took the lead, closely followed by Klondyke, Petro Star, Doris Potts and Perfect Trial, with Sea Craft, his handicap reduced from 216 yards to 72 yards, making up ground fast. ‘After three-quarters of the first lap ,had been covered these six opened up a big gap on the rest of the field, and Sea Craft went right round the field to take over control, with Kingsley getting the trail. With a round to go, Kingsley again , took control, Sea Crafts fading right out of the picture. Coming into the straight Klondyke, Petro Star and Doris Potts challenged the leader, with Klondyke getting the verdict by a narrow margin. At the conclusion of the event 1 the i-linds Cup was presented to the train-er-driver, D. Townley. A presentation was also made to Miss Cuff in appreciation of her gesture. At the conclusion of this, an exhibition Avas given by the three-year-old Fourth Brigade. Results were:— Trotting Events * Two-year-old Race: Manoa (scr) 1, Kantara Oscr) 2, Taradale (scr) 3. Second Divb sion: Western Queen (scr) 1, Jacare (scr) 2, Fairy Wand (scr) 3. Time, 3min 24 2-osec. 4 Hinds Cup, One mile and a Half — Klondyke scr (D. Townley) 1, Doris Potts (scr) 2, Petro Star (scr) 3. Time, 3min 22 2-ssec. The winner is owned by Mr C. R. Croft and is trained by the driver.
