GYMKHANA AT CHERTSEY
SUCCESSFUL DAY LARGE GATHERING OF PUBLIC An outstanding day was provided a large attendance of tlie public at tlie gymkhana held at Chertsey yesterday. The gate takings totalled £9O. The Methven Pipq Band provided a programme of selections. L. Johnson, a young rider of the Christchurch Amateur Cycling Club, bad a most successful day at the gymkhana at Chertsey yesterday. Startmg iii six finals, lie won four and finished second in another. He wop the two-mile Mid-Canterbury amateur
championship from L. P. Lock, Empire / Games cyclist from Christchurch, with «■ P- Elliott, another prominent Christchurch cyclist, third. Johnson also won the junior mile handicap, the twomile handicap, and the three-mile points scratch race. An accident occurred during the running of the two-year-old parade trotting, race, when Scottish Laird, Credit Chief, and Dourglo came down, leav- . ing Esquire as the only horse in the race. The drivers suffered superficial - injuries only. Economist won the Chertsey Handicap, the main trotting race, after taking control in the last lap from Lucky Dan, which had led for most of the two-mile distance.' Results:
