Russia Compared With U.S. NEW YORK, April 9. Mr Henry Wallace, a former . vice-president of the United States, said, to-day that Russia might yet put into practice more of the teachings of Christ than the United States. Mr Wallace Avas speaking in an Easter broadcast, sponsored by the American Labour Party Club in Peekshill, , Avhere rioting last year interrupted two attempts by the singer, Paul Robeson, to give concerts at rallies of Communist sympathisers. Mr Wallace said: “Our danger is that the Russians will eventually develop a greater capacity to understand and cure the suffering of the Avorld than we. Russia may yet put into practice more of the teachings of Jesus than the United States.
“Eventually, the competition between Russia and the United States may pass from a material to a spiritual plane. The Slavic soul may ultimately demonstrate greater capacity for Avorld service 'than the Anglo-Saxon soul. “If so, more honour to the Slavs, but in the brotherly competition of service I would like to see the United States demonstrate to the world hOAV far a Judo-Christian nation can go.” , Mr Wallace added: “The Soviet Union uses one kind of force and the United States another. Both are certain of the righteousness of their cause and are plunging headlong toAvard mutual destruction.”
