It was decided to appoint Miss Leggett, Highbank, as nurse temporarily at £4O per annum, and to advertise for a cook at £35 per annum. —Battalion Acting-Major: Lieutenant A. A. Fooks, who was recently appointed Acting-Major of the South Canterbury Battalion, will act in that capacity at the encampment. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” April 11, 1925). Praise for Rifle Range—“ The Ashburton Miniature Rifle Club’s range is one qf the best in the Dominion,’’.said Mr G. H. Hefford, patron of the club, at the annual meeting pf the club last evening. “Riflemen throughout New Zealand speak highly of the championship meetings conducted here. This county is the home of miniature rifle shooting; there is scarcely a township in it in which there is no club.”— Registration of Factories: The registration of factories in Ashburton is no>v taking place, and forms for factory production -figures for the use of the Government Statistician are being distributed. Fifty per cent, of the factory owners have failed to return registration forms, which should have been in the inspector’s hands at the beginning of the month.
