WAGE CLAIMS
CIVIL SERVANTS’ “WAY OPEN TO LODGE THE APPLICATION” (P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 10. “The way is legally open .to lodge now an application for a new principal order on up-to-date data and not on a past position as with the case just concluded,” said the national president of the Public Service Association (Mr J. P. Lewin) to-day, commenting on the decision of the Government Service Tribunal on Public Service wage claims. “This application for an entirely new salary structure will, probably on the decision of an augmented national executive, be lodged almost immediately. When it comes up for hearing, much the same ground as that now being covered by the railways organisation before their tribunal will be argued as effectively as possible. “Any decision which might be taken to. apply immediately for a new principal order does not prevent the association from making policy decisions concerning future support to the tribunal or confidence n its members. “To those who say ‘What’s the good of going into the ring again? it should be pointed out that the breadliners in the State services are the most harshly oppressed section in New Zealand, and no opportunity must be neglected to cry- their plight,” Mr Lewin said.
