NEW TREATY WITH EGYPT
BRITAIN REPORTED WILLING TO NEGOTIATE (Refe.. 9.30 a.m.) CAIRO, March 9. The Minister of State (Hamid Zaky Bey) said to-day that the British Foreign Secretary (Mr Eniest Bevin) during his recent visit had shown the utmost readiness to begin negotiations for a new treaty with Egypt on the basis of satisfying her national aspirations. The Minister said that if and when the new treaty was signed it would be a spiritual victory for Egypt and a material gain for Britain. The new treaty would safeguard British financial and other interests in Egypt. It would also save the money spent on troops in the canal zone and promote the stability necessary to combat the destructive principles of Communism ih the Middle, East.
