LITTLE GIRL AT PATE A BATHS (P.A.) ‘NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 4. Jeanette Scobie, aged eight, a daughter of Mr and Mrs Scobie, Patea, was sucked into the outlet pipe of the baths at the Patea beach while they were being emptied on Sunday afternoon. , . A number of children were playing in the water when the accident occurred and Jeanette vanished into the 12-inch pipe. Persons who saw the incident rushed to the end of the pipe expecting the child to be washed through, but when she did not appear they hurried back to the baths, and the child was pulled out by Mrs Corvey Newton. She was unconscious. ’ Artificial respiration was applied promptly by Mr R. A. Adams, and the child recovered, and was taken to her home. She suffered a grazed back and knees.
