SCATHING CRITIC

LABOUR M.P. ON MR BEVIN

“TORY FOREIGN POLICY FOLLOWED” (N.Z.P. A.—Copyright) (Rec. 10.10 a.m) LONDON, Jan. 3. “The Foreign Secretary, Mr Ernest Bevin, has been an international disaster,” Mr Lester Hutchinson (Independent Labour member for Rushholme, Manchester) told the annual .conference of the Students’ Labour Federation to-day. “He is a man entirely without knowledge of foreign countries, without any training in foreign affairs, who borrows from his experts at the Foreign Office phrases which he trots out on occasions Avhen he obAdously does not understand them.” Mr Hutchinson continued: “The Labour Government’s foreign policy has been in the hands of the leader of the Opposition since 1945. The Labour Government has pursued consistently the Tory foreign policy. It excused itself in the beginning on the grounds of continuity, but that was merely - a sham excuse, which does not bear the light of examination.”
