LICENSING COMMITTEE MEETS
IRON LADDERS DIFFICULT TO PROCURE
Hotels of the Ashburton Licensing District are experiencing difficulty in securing iron down ladders for the first escape requirements under the Egress Code, it was mentioned by Senior-Sergeant C. H. Reardon, before the quarterly meeting of the Licensing Committee this afternoon.
Four of the five hotels in the district had been unable to secure these ladders, it was stated, even though orders had beqn in for a very long time. It. was expected, however, that the need would be filled at an early date.
The Senior Sergeant mentioned, also, that the conduct of all the hotels had been good from a licensing point of view.
Only one application before the meeting, this being from John Clifden Ramsden, for renewal of the publican’s • licence for the Methven hotel. The application was adjourned from the last meeting in order that certain Requirements of the Egress Code could be carried out. .
) Mr W. F. Brown (Christchurch), for the applicant, stated .that the emergency lighting system had been installed, and 80 per cent, of the remaining work completed. The full work should be completed within another lb days. 'The senior Sergeant agreed with this opinion, and stated that the men had been working long hours to complete. their task. The appllcatiofi was granted.
Mr Rex C. Abernethy, S.M., was chairman, and with him were Messrs F. Pritchard, G. H. Nicoll and E. Buchanan.
