SUIT AGAINST JOHN L. LEWIS

NEW YORK, Dec. 2.

A claim for 500,000 dollars against Mr .John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers of America, was filed in the Federal Court to-day by Preskitt Brothers, coalmine operators, of Birmingham, Alabama. The plaintiffs' alleged that an armed mob of “200 to 500” attacked the six brothers in a two-hour gun battle while they were mining coal at their mine during the September coal strike. They also ambushed customers. The suit further alleged that Sheriff Grover Baggett, of Walker County, conspired with the union to deny the protection of the law to the Preskitt s. One member of the miners’ 'union was killed during the fight.
