This is to- , day’s comment by the Liberal paper “Nieuwe Rotterdamse Courant.” ,- v n . > ' Another Liberal paper, “Nieuwe Courant ’'* 'says that Socialism is played out when it has completed its programme of State control and intervention.” It adds:. “In many democratic countries the bend to the Right is observed, which most certainly may not be ascribed to the Communist threat alone.” .
“Vrije Volk,” a Socialist paper, says it is a big consolation that New Zealand Conservatives will not be 'able to undermine the Welfare State. The paper says the younger generation takes the Welfare State for granted, and “has nothing left of the old pioneering spirit.” This was a warning for European Socialists, too.
A London message says the New Zealand election result created a marked improvement in sentiment on the stock market, and brought useful gains to New Zealand and Australian loans, says Reuter’s financial correspondent. British Government funds, ended a vvqek on a quiet note. Prices of the gilt-edged section have shown a rising trend throughout the week. Overseas as well as domestic issues recorded marked firmness.
