Lady Members: The Women’s Christian Temperance Union has decided to send a letter to the members of the various Canterbury municipal councils, urging the claims of Mrs Henderson for a seat on the Charitable Aid Board. j

Special Excursion Train—The special excursion from Christchurch to Ashburton on Labour Day, asked for bv the Advance Ashburton tion, was very well -patronised, and though no guarantee was finally insisted upon by the Railwmy Department, such amount would have been greatly exceeded by the passenger fares. Leaving Christchurch at 10.45 a.m., the train conveyed 290 people to-Ash-burton, and on its return at 5.45 p.m. had 448 on board. -
