HOLY ORDERS
SHORTAGE OF CANDIDATES (Rec. 9.30 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 18. The Bishop of the Chelmsford diocesan conference to-day said the chief cause of the shortage of candidates for Holy Orders was lack of conviction as to the truth of religion. “While faith remains pallid and anaemic, and seldom reaches the stage of burning cqnviction, the call to the ministry is unlikely to be heard or obeyed,” he said. “Indeed, the alarming feature of life to-day is the breakdown of 'the sanctities of our homes. This is largely explained by the decay of religious instruction in our day schools.” -
