THE WEATHER

STRONG NOR’-WESTER Conditions in Ashburton to-day have been warm, with a strong nor’-west-erly wind. The barometer dropped suddenly, and this morning registered 29.35 inches. Other recordings taken at 9 o’clock this morning were:—Maximum temperature 73.0 degrees, minimum temperature 44.0 degrees, earth temperature 49.3 degrees. Frost was non-existent and the hours of sunshine yesterday totalled 9.8.

The Government Meteorologist,. at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General Situation : A ridge ol high pressure is over the North Island. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: —

Fresh winds from a westerly quarter, • north-westerly predominating; cloudy, with some scattered showers this afternoon and again to-morrow afternoon; temperatures mild. Further outlook: Colder and showers.
