BEAT WIFE WITH HOSE
SHAREMILKER IMPRISONED FOR MONTH (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 19. One month’s imprisonment was imposed on Charles Neville Cole, sharemilker, of Puniho, by Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court to-day when he admitted an assault on his wife Jean Winifred Cole. Evidence was given that Cole severely beat his wife with a rubber hose. He admitted doing so, but denied having struck her with his fists as alleged. Constable W. F. Antill, in evidence, said Cole, when questioned, said that he besat his wife because she would not do as he asked her. Cole had been convicted and sentenced to a week’s imprisonment on a similar charge in January, 1947.
