WOMEN’S DIVISION

WESTERFIELD-LAGMHOR BR7TNCH Mrs W. G. McCormick presided at the monthly meeting of the Westei*-field-Lagmhor branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. After the business had c&ncluded, Mrs Milne, of Methven, gave a very inspiring and interesting address on the highlights of the conference. Mrs L. J. Fechney, in thanking Mrs Milne, voiced the deep appreciation of the members, and hoped Mrs Milne would retm-n. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Houghton and C. Lamb. The next meeting, which will be a wsek earlier than usual, will take the form of a social afternoon in honour of Miss G. Watson, who is shortly to be married. Competition results were: —Cream puffs, Mrs H. A. Sheate 1, Mrs C. Lamb 2, Miss Sheate 3; buttonhole, Mrs I. J 3. Fechney 1, Mrs Houghton 2, Mrs D. J. Fechney 3; knitted gloves, Mrs C. Lamb 1, Miss Crosson 2, Mrs il'. D. Fechney 3; spinach, Mrs C. Lamb 1, Mrs H. Small 2.

FLEMINGTON BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Flemington branch of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers was held in the school on September 10. The president, Mrs K. Taylor, presided over a good attendance of members. The roll call, “Question box,” helped to solve many of the members’ problems. Books, seeds, etc., were handed in for Corso. Members were reminded of the leper appeal for next month and it was also decided to send the eggs in the competition to “Te Kiteroa.”

The speaker for the afternoon was Mrs A. S. Hayman who gave a very interesting and instructive talk on how the Division was founded as well as other matters that concerned Division members. The results of the monthly competitions were: Jug of flowering shrub, Miss J. Bratley 1, Mrs K. Taylor 2, Mrs E. Taylor 3; sugar-bag article, Mrs K. Sutherland 4, Mrs R. Read and Miss J. Bratley (equal) 2, Mrs E. Taylor and Mrs T. Bell (equal) 4; madiera cake, Miss J. Bryant 1, Mrs W. Douglas 2, Mrs T. Read 3; prettiest Christmas card, Mrs J. Omelvena 1, Miss B. Shimmin 2, Miss J. Bryant 3; best flower, Mrs T. Williams i, Mrs K. Sutherland 2, Mrs J. Omelvena 3. . The hostesses were Mrs Merrin and Miss V. Lovett.
