Ashburton County Work REVIEW BY ENGINEER Reviewing work carried out during the past month, the engineersecretary, Mr H. G. Kemp, reported to to-day’s meeting of the Ashburton Electric Power Board as follows: . ’’Reconstruction in the Highbank area was completed except for a small amount of tree cutting; 28 poles were erected, mainly in re-arranging lowtension services. Approximately three miles of the former main line was dismantled and 86 poles were recovered. “Work continued on the Ealing reconstruction and 2i miles of main line on the new route has been erected and put into service; 55 poles have been erected and 44 recovered.
“Poles from Highbank were transferred to Moptalto, and a start has been made with the completion of the subsidised line there. Eight poles were erected. Nine poles, of which four were supplied by consumers, were erected in eight extensions in rural areas. Four replacements and three additional poles for clearance purposes were also erected there. Extensions and new services in the town area required 15 poles, and one additional pole was erected to improve clearance.
“Three transformers were changed in the course of line reconstruction, six small transformers were changed on account of load increases, one additional transformer was erected, and one defective transformer was replaced. The 150 kva transformer at Park Street substation had become overloaded and was replaced by one of 250 kva. ♦
“Ten more sets of lightning arresters were erected, mainly in the Lagmhor area. Three 11 kv OCB cubicles are installed in Mayfield substation, and, when the necessary cable is installed, will control the Klondyke and Valetta lines. An earth testing set was received recently and earth testing has been done in the MayfieldMontalto areas. Twenty-three more water-heaters have been connected to the pilot wire system. Five additional street lights were installed in Tinwald.“Some 122 trees were lelled and 89 topped, mainly in the Highbank area; 39 steel poles were overhauled on the Ealing branch lines, and 20 more were treated in the yard, and 46 were concreted on the lines.”
