LAURiSTON FUNCTION FARE*WELL TO TEACHER # On the eve of her departure from the Lauriston School to take up a position on the teaching staff of the Fendalton School, Miss M. A. Bascand was entertained at a social afternoon in the Lauriston Hall by tli© committee and staff of the Lauriston School. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr R. F. Letham, presided over the gathering, which included the staff and pupils, parents and residents of the district. Enjoyable vocal numbers were contributed by the senior pupils, conducted by Mr Mackie, and by the juniors, conducted by Miss Bascand, who also was the accompanist. Mr Letham said that all present regretted the departure of Miss Bascand from the school, but wished her happiness and success in her new appointment. He then handed the guest of honour a gift from the committee, staff, pupils, parents and friends. On behalf of the basketball girls, Rhona Scarth pinned a pretty spray on Miss Bascand, handed her a gift and thanked her for her kindly interest in their sports.
The headmaster, Mr J. A. Mackie; said that Lauriston School was losing a first-class teacher, whose influence in the school was always for good. Speaking for the residents of kauriston, Mr J. H. Stevens said that Miss Bascand had made many friends because of her bright and charming personality, and he voiced the regret of those friends at her departure. , Miss Bascand made an appreciative reply. Afternoon tea concluded an enjoyable function.
