The final day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting is being held in ideal conditions at Riccarton to-day, with a good attendance. The track was much faster than on earlier days and provided excellent footing. WALKER CUP U.S. LEADS BRITAIN (Rec. 12.15 p.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 19. United States took a three to one lead over Britain in the Walker Cup foursomes at the Winged Foot Flub, Mamaroneck, to-day. The only British victors were .T. Carr and R. While, who defeated W. Turnesa and R. Billows 3 and 2. Other results were: —F. Stranahan and C. Kocsis beat J. Bruen and S. McCready, 2 and 1; T. Bishop and S. Riegel beat C. Ewing and G. Micklem 9 and 7: J. Dawson and B. McCormick beat K. Thom and A. Perowne 8 and 7. Eight singles will be played to-mor-row. With the exception of Carr and White, the British players put. up a disappointing performance, and did not inspire any confidence in the ability of the team to wipe out the foursomes deficit in the singles.
