FIFTY YEARS SYNE (From the “Guardian,” Augi 20, 1899). Mayfield News —“Economy” was the subject of an. essay delivered by Mr Andrew Wills at the meeting of the Mayfield Mutual Improvements Association. Mr Hain presided. Mr Wills was much applauded for his paper, and Misses Hain and Ellery, and Messrs Hyde and Hain each followed up the subject of discourse with a few remarks. Mr John Huston gave a solo. It was agreed that Mr Spencer give a limelight lecture of the different languages of the Bible, under the auspices of the association. TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO (From the “Guardian,” Aug. .20, 1924). St. John’s Ambulance A ladies’ home nursing class was formed last evening under the auspices of the local St. John’s Ambulance Association. There were 28 ladies present. The class is under the direction of Miss Watt, matron of the County Hospital, who took the class through the first lecture of the course, “The Functioning of the Living Body.” The class was afterwards given some practical work by members of the nursing division, under Mrs Matthews. The lectures are to be held weekly.
