PERSONAL

The last meeting of the Ashburton Free Kindergarten Association received with great regret the resignation of Miss D. Ironside, director of the East Kindergarten. It is understood that Miss ironside is shortly to be married, but will continue in her present office for the third term. Sincere regret at the passing of Mr j. W. Bowden was expressed at a meeting of directors of the Ashburton Gas, Coal 'and Coke Company, held this afternoon, and a motion of sympathy was passed to Mrs Bowden and family in their bereavement. Mr Bowden had first been auditor to the company, then a director for 14 years and chairman in 1947-48. It was decided to place on record, in an appi eciatory minute, the valuable service Mr Bowden had rendered to the company over the years.
