STATE HOUSES

System in New South Wales

ALLOCATION BY BALLOT (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. State rental houses in New South Wales were allocated by ballot, said Mr C. M. Bowden, member of Parliament for Karori, in an interview to-day on his return from a visit to. Australia.

Each applicant, he said, knew where his application stood in relation to others, and he was entitled to know whether his name was on the list from which the ballot "was taken. If it were not there he was entitled to know the reason for its omission, Mr Bowden said. Great care was taken to see that any application was genuine, but once an applicant was approved his priority was fixed. The principle of “first in, first out.” was strictly followed, and as tenants knew their priority the allocation of houses was almost automatic.
