NATIONAL HEALTH SCHEME
COST TO BRITAIN LONDON, Mar. 23. According to Government estimates, published to-day, Britain’s national health service will cost £259,750,000 in the coming year. Under the new free service ior every member of the public, doctors will be paid about £40,000,000. Chemists will get nearly £19,000.000 for supplying drugs and medicines, and the free dental treatment will cost £28,000,000— an increase of more than £9,000,000 on lust year. The figures indicated that the first rush for free spectacles and eye tests was falling off. Optical services next year will cost the State £12,500,000 — a decrease of about £1,000,000.
