COMMITTEE MEETING
WAIPI AT A SANATORIUM The monthly meeting of the Waipiata Sanatorium Committee was held in the Otago Hospital Board’s offices recently. Mr E. Macdonald (chairman), presided. The medical superintendent, Dr. A. Kidd, reported that during January, 79 patients had been admitted, two were discharged, and 104 were in the institution at the end of the month. He recommended as suitable for admission to the institution one patient from Southland and two from Waitaki. The secretary reported that on February 21 the associated boards had patients in the institution as follows: Southland 40, South Canterbury 28, Ashburton 7, Waitaki 14, South Otago 7, Vincent 8, Maniototo 2, a total of 10G. There were 42 empty beds at this date. Since the previous meeting four patients from three districts had been discharged and there was a waiting list of 11 patients from four districts for admission, the secretary stating that two of these patients had been notified that beds were available. Dr. J. M. Coutts, assistant medical officer, wrote resigning from the committee’s staff, and the resignation was accepted with regret. The treasurer submitted statements of the committee’s receipts and payments showing that on January 31 there was a credit balance of £7788 13s 4d, which included an amount of £SOOO invested on fixed deposit for capital works not yet commenced. Statements of receipts and payments for the 10 months ended January 31, compared with the amounts estimated for that period, were also submitted, the actual maintenance receipts being £1412 18s lid less, and the actual maintenance payments £5819 7s Id more than the estimate.
