REGULATIONS AMENDED f Regulations under the Health Act affecting eating houses had been amended from January 1, 1949, said the report of the health inspector (Mr T. G. McPherson) presented to a meeting of the Ashburton Borough Council. “The amending regulations set out the requirements for these premises, and copies will be sent to the owners of food premises, after which it is proposed to arrange interviews to explain any doubtful points that may arise, and to advise owners of their responsibilities,” the report said. Where structural alterations to premises were required, the regulations allowed up to three years for full compliance, but other regulations were required to he complied with innnedi-' ately. These were: Hygienic cleansing of utensils, non-use of cracked or chipped crockery, provision of clean washable, . light-coloured overalls for workers, ‘abolition of unnecessary handling of food, carrying of spoons in pockets, and smoking in kitchens and serveries. “The question of ‘quick lunch’ counters, which have been the subject of unfavourable comment from the public, has also been dealt with,” the report added.
