PUBLIC SERVICE ENDED
VP.A.) INVERCARGILL, This Day. Mi 1 .John Pickard, J.P., wellknown and popular in the service of public bodies and institutions in the city died suddenly yesterday. Since he retired from the railways in March, 1.931, Mr Pickard’s life was one of public-spiritedness marked particularly by Ids work as chairman of the Reserves Commit!ee of tire City Council and patriotic bodies during the war years. Mr Pickard, who was 71 years of age, served 40 years with the railways, having joined the department as a cadet at, Port Chalmers in 1891.., Before coming to Invercargill in January, 1928, as district, traffic manager, he was assistant-traffic manager both at, Auckland and at Dunedin. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
