Heavy Rain at Methven TORRENTS AT CHRISTCHURCH (P A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Sweeping in from the southwest about 8.30 p.m. yesterday, a heavy storm struck the'city and produced torrential rainfall in the early stages, 4 points being recorded in the first 20 minutes. - Steady rain continued throughout the night and the weather cleared this morning though there was still a strong south-westerly blowing. Many sports fixtures had to be cancelled but heavy as the rain was in-Christchurch it was-even worse in such districts as Methven and Little River.

At Methven, between 4.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m. yesterday 1.53 inches fell, heralded by thunder and lightning. Little River had the heaviest and the most consistent fall. It rained steadily there all day yesterday and by nine o’clock-this'-morning 4.39 inches had been recorded for the/ 24 hours.
