MANY VOLUNTEERS
SANITARY WORK AT BRISBANE & . (Rec. 10.30) BRISBANE, This Day. Nearly 300 men have volunteered as sanitary and garbage workers at the Aveek-end. They include businessmen, clerks, tradesmen and ex-servicemen. The response to the call for voluntary Avorkers Avas so great that dozens had to be turned aAvay. The Queensland Trades and Labour Council declared black any work for the neAv sanitary and garbage contractor in the Greater Brisbane area and called on key unions in the dispute to provide pickets and “protect the jobs of sanitary and garbage workers” AVho have refused to work for the new contractor. The Transport Workers’ Union, however, decided it Avould not organise picketing. Special police will guard volunteer Avorkers during the Aveek-end.
