SOUTHLAND RECORD
60fd for Super Crossbred FRENCH BUYERS AT FIRST SALE I (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Jan. 7. A new Southland record price for greasy wool was established at the iirst main sale of the season to-day when a French buyer paid 603 d for a four-bale lot of super quarterbred, sold for the estate of D. A. Cameron, Glenfalloch Station, Nokomai. This was an improvement of several pence on the best price for a Southland sale earlier in the sale when up to .583 d was paid for Nokomai hogget wool. The market was firm on recent sales for fleece wool, with the exception that an easing tendency was noticeable for fine three-quarterbred. There were no passings and a full bench of buyers operated. The official report of the Invercargill Woolbrokers’ Association in conjunction with the New Zealand Wool Disposal Commission says that the quality of the wool in general wa3 of a very high standard, and overall was considered the best for a number of years. The wool was bright, well grown and showing a lot of style, and minimum tenderness. A fair proportion of the clip comprised early shearing pre-lambing clips. Every section of the trade bought freely and the Continent was particularly active on any fine wools and oddments. Wherever any fine wools were offered local mills were strongly in evidence and secured some choice lines. The sale, while not up to the record level of the last Dunedin sale, was particularly sue-" cessful. A potable feature was an easing tendency of any lines of fine crossbreds, while pieces, bellies, and necks were sold in some cases at little less than fleece wool. All lines of hogget wool, especially those which were sound, met with a very keen sale. •
