SHOWERY CONDITIONS CONTINUE \ Following 19 points of rain during the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. to-day, Ashburton experienced further showery weather this morning, with the sky overcast and a wind from the south-west. Early this afternoon, there was a marked rise in temperature. Only 12 minutes of bright sunshine was registered yesterday. The maximum temperature during the period was 70.8 degrees and the minimum 51.5, compared with 85.6 and 62 during the previous 24 hours. The earth temperature was 63 degrees compared with 66.2. The barometer rose slightly over the 24 hours, the reading this morning being 29.68 inches against 29.45. Exceptionally heavy rain was experienced at Pendarves during the 24 hours to 9 a.m. to-day, 125 points being registered on the gauge at Mr A. P. Bruce’s residence.

A CLOUDY OUTLOOK (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— ' A weak depression is east of the North Island and an anti-cyclone is advancing across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow -is <*=> follows:-South-westerly winds decreasing tonight about and north of Ban}cs Peninsula; variable winds to-morrow. Some occasional rain at first, but for the most part cloudy. Temperatures moderate to cool. Further outlook: Cloudy.
