DULL AND COOLER Some light showers were experienced in Ashburton this morning, following a very warm night, and conditions were dull and cooler. The maximum temperature yesterday was 85.6 and the minimum 62, compared with 77. S and 58 degrees on Wednesday. The earth temperature to-day was 66.2 against 66.1 yesterday. The barometer this morning had dropped from 29.58 inches to 29.45. There were 8.9 hours of sunshine yesterday.

FAIR CONDITIONS AHEAP (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, _at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: A depression is south of the South Island. A cold front is advancing across New Zealand and an anti-cyclone is over the Western Tasman.

The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: —<

Winds soon turning to moderate southerly, but north-easterlies predomating on the coast to-morrow. Unsettled at first with occasional showers but becoming fair overnight. Moderate to cool temperatures. Further outlook: Fair.
