INFLUENZA IN FRANCE
“NOT OF SPANISH TYPE” PARIS, January (>. One Parisian in five is in bed with influenza, according to French press reports,. and 100,000 cases have been reported in Lyons.
The French Ministry of Health has asked doctors to name affected areas in other parts of the country. One newspaper said that the influenza was not the “Spanish ’flu” which wrought such havoc after the First World War. It Iras not yet reached alarming proportions, but Eastern France has been particularly hard hit.
It is reported that in Mulhouse and Metz doctors and pharmacies are overwhelmed by nearly 20.000 patients. Some factories are working at reduced speed because of absentees. Vaccines have been rushed to the infected cities in case “Spanish influenza” should develop.
