HUMAN RIGHTS
MRS ROOSEVELT SEES NEW EPOCH LONDON, Dec. 8. Mrs Roosevelt last night saw the successful outcome of two and a half years of pioneering work when the first international declaration of human rights, which she helped to frame, was adopted bv the United ations Social Committee. It will now go for ratification to the General Assembly, which is to give it priority. Mrs Roosevelt forecast that the declaration would soon spread through the world, in spite of “iron curtains” and “totalitarian” censorships. The Paris correspondent of the “Daily Herald” quotes her as adding: “A curious grapevine will take news of this epoch-making achievement of the United Nations to the Russian people and to all whose governments seek to distort information from the outside world. All governments which completely control means of information are affected by what their people Avant. Sooner or later they have to meet these needs.”
