FITFUL SUNSHINE
To-day dawned bright and sunny in Ashburton, although temperatures showed a decided drop, and clouds were forming overhead by mid-day. The maximum temperature during the 24 hours to 9 a.m. to-day was 64.0 degrees and the minimum 42.0, compared with 76.8 and 69 for the previous corresponding period. Earth temperature to-day was 58.2, as against 59.8 degrees yesterday. There was 0.6 of an hour’s sunshine yesterday. The barometer reading of 29.67 inches this morning was a return to the same figure recorded two days ago, after falling to 29.48 at 9 a.m. yesterday. OUTLOOK FAIR (P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather: — General situation: An anti-cyclone is moving away to the east and a low pressure trough is approaching from the South Tasman. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru to 5 p.m. to-morrow is as follows: Moderate variable winds, southwesterlies freshening this evening;' some scattered brief showers overnight, chiefly from Banks Peninsula north, but weather otherwise fair; temperatures moderate. Outlook: Fair.
