The Mayor of Dunedin (Sir Donald Cameron) will leave to-day on a six weeks’ trip to Australia.—P.A.
The resignation of Miss B. H. Brown, who has been appointed to Wakanui School, was accepted with regret by the Allenton School Committee at last evening’s meeting.
The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser) is not expected to return to New Zealand until the middle or perhaps near the end of January. This information was given yesterday by the Acting-Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. W. Nash).—P.A.
Sergeant G. A. Glassey, whose mother, Mrs E. C. Glassey, resides at 1 Carter’s Terrace, Tinwald, is included in the draft of 2nd N.Z.E.F. personnel returning from Japan in the Westralia, which is due at Auckland about December 10.
Tributes to Mr R. H. Biggar for his outstanding service to the game were paid at last evening’s meeting of the management committee of the Ashburton County Cricket Association, and he was presented with a set of pipes by Mr G. V. Furby, secretary for many years past. The president, Mr F. Pritchard, spoke warmly of the great work performed by Mr Biggar, who is the first life member of the association, and was president for the last 10 years.
