Curtis) and Mrs Bathurst, he had attended the opening of the new ■ “Junior Chamber of Commerce” wing at Glenelg Camp, said the 'Mayor (Mr E. C. Bathurst) at a meeting of the Ashburton Health Camp Committee. Mr Bathurst presided at the meeting. The opening of the new wing will mean that the Ashburton quota of children for the camp will be increased by one in each group. Mr K. Mann reported that following a public meeting held on September 6 last, to discuss the sale of health stamps, there had been a goQd response from the public. Assistance had been given by, various women’s organisations in making sales in the Post 'Office vestibule, where the total amount paid in as at November 30, was £O6 Is. Aggregate amount for Ashburton on the same date was £787 12s Gd, and for the Ashburton county as a whole sales reached the record figure of £IOOS Is Sd at the end of November. - It was noted with interest by l the meeting that the sales figure for last year’s campaign of £913 2s Gd, when the campaign* lasted three months longer, was considered a record. A small number of health stamps remain to be sold, but it is not expected that they will last beyond Christmas. Special mention was made of the assistance given by the schoolchildren on postmen’s drive day. The children were from the Borough, Allenton, East Ashburton, Tinwalcl and the Convent. Members of the junior and senior Chambers of Commerce had played a vert important part also. Women’s organisations had, as promised, sent their representatives to conduct the sales at the Post Office vestibule. _ Messrs S. G. Macfarlane and J. M. Willoughby had: rendered valuable service through their publicity activities, and the committee passed a vote of thanks to them. The Mayor paid tribute to Mr K. A. Mann for his interest in the. campaign. At present, a group of girls are attending the camp, and they will be there until about January 25. From January 28 till March 15, a group of boys will be attending. The meeting closed with the chairman extending the season’s greetings to members.
