The Mayor (Mr B. C. Bathurst), Mrs Bathufst aii'l Mrs F. Curtis attended the opening o£ the new wing at Glenelg health camp on Saturday.

Mr A. D. Lowe will be the speaker at the break-up function of the Ashburton High School to be held at St. Andrew’s Hall on December 9.

Miss Swanson, Art mistress at the Ashburton High School for the past year, has notified the Board of Governors that she will be leaving at the end of the year to take up a full-time position. The headmaster (Mr E. A. Cockroft) expressed regret at the loss of Miss Swanson, in his monthly report to the Board this morning.

Mr G. V. Furby, secretary of the Ashburton High School Board of Governors for the last 22 years, gave notice of his impending retirement to the Board at their final monthly meeting for the year this morning.. Accepting Mr Furby’s resignation with regret, the Board granted him leave of absence during the month of March next, the resignation fo become'effective as from the end of April, and wished Mr and Mrs Furby happiness during their retirement.
