DOG SHOW
Very Successful Fixture HIGH STANDARD REVEALED With entries totalling 135, the second largest number on record, the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society held one of its most successful summer dog shows at the Drill Hall on Saturday. The majority of the exhibitors were from Christchurch, but there were a number of entries from Timaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill, with local exhibitors more numerous than usual. The general standard was particularly high, said the judge of all breeds, Mr S. 11. Rastall, of Wellington. The best dog in the show was M. K. McDermott’s Bon Ton Invader, a cocker spaniel, which won the John Grigg Cup. This dog was a particularly fine specimen of its breed, said Mr Rastall, and had been put down in really good show condition. The President’s Cup for the best opposite sex in the show was awarded to Mrs T. V. Cooke’s Welsh Corgis, Cothi Megan, and the Montressor Cup for the best puppy was awarded to Mrs and S. F. Storey’s wire-haired terrier, Gentleman Joe. of Driffield. The champion of champion stakes was won by Mrs C. L. Ridgen’s Pekinese, Cli. Pung Kee of Montressor. In addition to those .published on Saturday morning’s judging, championship challenge awards were won as follow:

Fookes. Cocker spaniel (other than black): M. If. McDermott and Mrs G. Mansfield. English springer spaniel: A. E. Seeker and Miss G. Sapio. Bulldog: I. R. Shand. Samoyeds: Mrs and C. I. C. Hughes. Welsh Corgis: Mrs T. V. Cooke. Rough-co.at-ed collies: D. Brown and Mrs A. W. Brown. Alsatian: Mrs P. R. Fincliara and Miss L. Greig.

Puppy: L. E. and I. Vernazoni. Grand puppy: Mrs and S. F. Storey. Novice dog: Mrs and W. J. Heslop. Limit: Mrs S. Mansfield. Visitors: Mrs and S. F. Storey. Local owners: R. E. Spicer. Gun dog: Mrs H. M Sapio. Grand challenge: Mrs and S. F. Storey. Champion of champion: Mrs C. L. Ridgen.
The following cups were won: Aynsley Cup (for best wire-haired terrier in junior classes): Mrs S. F. Storey. Tekau Cup (for best wirehaired terrier): Mrs Storey. Dowdall Cup (for best Irish terrier nog): E. A. Hopkins. Riverbank Cup (for best collie): Mrs A. W. Brown. Canterbury Cup (for best c*ollie puppy): N. E. Haywood.
