FIRM TO CHANGE HANDS
THOMAS BROTHERS, LTD., SOLD One of Ashburton’s oldest established businesses, Thomas Brothers, Ltd., of 183 Havelock Street, will change hands, on September 1. The.new concern will he a branch of„ Market Gardeners, Ltd., Avhose head office is in Wellington and Avhich has branches in Christchurch, Hastings and Palmerston North. Thomas Brothers Avas founded on its present premises over 70 years ago by the late Mr John Thomas, and Avas controlled subsequent to his death by his three sons —Messrs George, Alfred and Percy Thomas. On Mr Percy Thomas’s transfer to Invercargill. and Mr Alfred Thomas opening a business in Hampstead, control of the firm Avas taken over by Mr George Thomas, whose death occurred in 1946. Mr Thomas was actively connected with the busiuess for a period of 50 years. Oni his death control Avas taken by his son, Mr Allan B. Thomas, whose death occurred in March of this year. Miss H. E. Thomas, Avho has had charge of the business since the death of her brother, will remain in the employment of the new concern.
